News – Moscow and Kiev accused each other of shooting around the Russian-Ukrainian-controlled Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, Saturday (27/8/2022).

The Russian Defense Ministry said Ukrainian forces had bombed the factory complex three times in the past 24 hours.

“A total of 17 rounds were fired, four of which landed on the roof of Special Building No. 1, where 168 nuclear fuel kits from the US company Westinghouse are stored,” the ministry said.

It added that 10 shells exploded near a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.

Three more are near a building housing a new nuclear fuel depot.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s state nuclear energy company Energoatom said that Russian forces have returned to bombarding the territory of the factory complex in the past 24 hours.

“The damage is currently being determined,” Energoatom wrote in a statement on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that the situation in Zaporizhia remains “precarious” after two of its six reactors were reconnected.

As is known, the network encountered problems due to a shooting that cut off a nuclear plant for the first time in its history.
