A video shared under the hashtag “Kia Boyz” informs TikTok users of stealing vintage Hyundai and Kia models using just a phone charger tip or USB cable.
According to the Cook County Mayor’s Office, between July 1 and mid-August this year, about 642 cars were reported stolen from Korean manufacturers in the area, compared to only 74 in the same period last year.
This crime wave affects vehicles without an immobilizer and requires a mechanical key to start it.

“Car thefts are up 767% due to emerging TikTok challenges,” the 15th Chicago Police Department said in a statement.
“This challenge is game after game for young people about how to steal Hyundai and Kia cars. “Car theft is an opportunity crime and can affect almost any member of society.” Russia TodaySaturday (27/8/2022).
Police urged Kia and Hyundai owners to remain “vigilant”, always remove their ignition keys when the car is not in use, and try to park in well-traveled and well-lit areas.
Earlier this week, the social media giant condemned the challenge of car theft, pledging to take action according to its own “guidance”.
